I am a psychological scientist with 10 years of experience designing, conducting, and leading end-to-end research on human behaviors and experiences. My expertise lies in emotions, perceptions, and motivations, with most of my work concentrating on the context of sexuality, relationship initiation, and well-being.
I completed my BSc in Psychological Science and Business at Monash University Malaysia in 2011. I graduated top of my class majoring in Marketing and Psychology with First Class Honors.
I then completed my PhD in Psychology at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland as a Swiss Government Excellence Scholar in 2017. Equipped with a drive to learn more about sexual and interpersonal processes among Malaysians, I returned to Malaysia upon graduating.
I worked as a lecturer at my alma mater, Monash University Malaysia. In 4.5 years, I developed and instructed undergraduate and postgraduate courses on research methods and statistics, led a research lab, and initiated international and cross-disciplinary collaborations, which produced 15 projects and 18 research publications.
After a decade in academia, I began working with companies as a freelance research consultant in 2021. In 2022, I co-founded Safe Space Psychology Centre with the goal of democratizing access to psychological knowledge and tools. With my company, I developed and provided psychologically-informed corporate training to organizations and ran workshops and social events for the general public.

Trained in the scientific method, I study human behavior and perceptions, and how these are driven by cultural, personality, and situational factors. At the core, I am interested in understanding human needs and how they shape the way we see and experience the world.
I am particularly interested in the need to belong and have examined this in the context of sexual health, romantic relationship initiation and maintenance, parent-child relationships, human-nature relationships, and overall well-being.
Research skills
Experiments, surveys, daily diary or ambulatory assessments, behavioral observation, usability testing, A/B testing, heuristic evaluation, task analysis, focus group discussions, interviews, thematic analyses, literature review, data analysis (e.g., t-test, ANOVA, linear regression, linear mixed models/multilevel modeling, nonparametric tests)
Research tools
SPSS, R, JASP, Qualtrics survey software, G suite, Microsoft Office
My experiences as a student and educator in Australia, Switzerland, and Malaysia have exposed me to teaching audiences of varying cultural backgrounds, educational backgrounds, and age groups. Apart from designing and conducting lectures, workshops, seminars, and tutorials in the academic setting, I am also an HRDCorp-accredited trainer with experience developing and leading corporate training programs and workshops for organizations.
My startup, Safe Space Psychology Centre, which I co-founded and ran in 2022, delivers psychoeducational courses that are informed by scientific evidence and professional practice to organizations and the general public.
Topics
Research methods, statistical analyses with R and SPSS, sexual health and behaviors, relationship needs, attachment styles, stress and emotion regulation, mindfulness, personality, work-life balance, job satisfaction.
I love creating opportunities for like-minded people to connect through social events and self-discovery workshops. My not-your-typical singles event, which got a group of singles together to learn about their romantic attachment styles, was a great hit.
Outside of work, I enjoy learning about nature and history. I love national parks, museums, archeological sites, and documentaries.
For stress relief, I believe in the power of solo dance parties!
